| | Crystal Kay - A Song for You | ] | I bet no one has ever watched all 3 Lord of the Rings series within 24 hours!! I watched The Fellowship of the Ring at midnight from 10pm~1am on Friday. From 2pm-5pm I watched The Two Towers on Saturday. Then, on the same day, I went go see The Return of the King with Yvonne, Felix, Cecilia, and Brian at Rolling Hills from 6:15pm~9:45pm. Muahahahaha! Beat that Felix! At any rate, I must admit that The Lord of The Rings series were awesome. Now, I must read the books since I hear from Felix that they are even better.
You guys have seen the GOT MILK? commercials right? I came to realize that it isn't funny at all. See, we went to go get some Krispy Kreme after the movie. We bought a dozen and ate 3 each (we got 3 samples of doughnuts). Then, we really wanted some milk, but since we were too cheap to pay $2, we agreed to buy it at a store. Suprisingly, Smart&Final was a minute from where we were. So Felix, Brian, and I went over their to get a gallon of milk... GOT MILK? |

At least I thought it was since I squeezed Miyuki's hand "pretty" hard... yes... The bad part was seeing it on at 9:50 so the movie ended at midnight which made it even worse... cuz I had to drive home and I almost ran past the red light since some of the scene was stuck in my imagination. Once again, "I almost." To those of you who love horror, I urge that you should see it. P.S. Akimioto san to hayato san itsumo itsumo arigatougozaimasu. |

I was very fortunate.

| | Kohara Akiko - Mermaid | ] | By Michael Gardner COPLEY NEWS SERVICE
SACRAMENTO — Gardena became the first city in California to be fined for dumping too much trash in landfills, drawing an immediate $70,000 penalty and threats of even more punishment from state regulators Tuesday. The California Integrated Waste Management Board cited Gardena under a state law that requires most cities and counties to make marked progress toward a goal of recycling half of their waste. Gardena city officials were relieved, despite losing the substance of their appeal. The waste board could have fined the city nearly $900,000 immediately. Instead, the board on a 5-1 vote decided to give Gardena a chance to prove by Jan. 1 its claims that mandatory recycling provisions in a new waste hauling contract will produce significant reductions in trash going to the dump. Gardena will be fined another $1,460 a day for 60 days if the city does not meet its obligations to improve recycling programs by the start of the new year. The penalty will increase to $2,190 a day if the savings fail to materialize after that 60-day period, under the decision. “You would like to have a complete pass, but . . .” said a realistic Mitchell Lansdell, city manager. The board meted out the punishment without comment after a 45-minute closed-door meeting. In the resolution, the board accused Gardena of not acting in good faith to comply with state mandates to reduce its garbage going to landfills. Gardena has failed to show progress despite two compliance orders and three extensions, according to the state. In their defense, city officials argued that they have had to deal with dozens of trash haulers — as many as 16 in 2000 — while monitoring how much waste actually was picked up in Gardena and how much was generated by nearby cities. “It was hard for us to chase after that many people,” Lansdell told the board. The City Council recently signed a controversial joint venture giving Waste Resources Inc. a monopoly on trash hauling. As part of the contract, Waste Resources Inc. must increase recycling in the businesses community by 30 percent. “We believe that is a show of good faith,” Lansdell said. But some board members appeared skeptical, given the city’s history of noncompliance and foot-dragging during the past four years. Board member Steve Jones said the new contract is not yet in effect. “How do we say OK your plan of attack is going to work?” he asked. According to waste board figures, about half of the cities and counties have not yet reached the state-ordered goal of a 50 percent reduction in landfill dumping. However, all of those jurisdictions have received extensions and are demonstrating substantial progress in nearing the recycling target, waste board officials said. Gardena’s diversion stood at just 13 percent in 2000, although the city contends that the figures were skewed by haulers that commingled trash from other cities. The statewide average is 48 percent for all 449 jurisdictions covered by the law. In his testimony, Lansdell told the board that Gardena has not been able to afford the staff or funding to track and audit garbage collections. Board member Cheryl Peace, wife of state Finance Director Steve Peace, countered that some of the jurisdictions on the way to full compliance are just as poor.
“I don’t have a lot of sympathy,” she said.
Gardena offers curbside recycling to its 60,000 residents across 5 square miles. But state officials said the city has not aggressively pursued similar programs in the commercial district — a major factor in its dismal record.

| | Daniel Beddingfield - If you're not the one | ] | For those who aren't informed yet about this spectacular event.
Never again in our lifetime will the Red Planet be so spectacular. This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars, an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years but it may be as long as 60,000 years. The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August Mars will rise in the east at 10 p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m. But by the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 a.m. So mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Share this knowledge with everyone and especially the children. No one alive today will see this again.
Thanks to Emelda Tumminia for this incredible news. |

| | Hirai Ken - Life is... | ] | The Female Dictionary:
FINE This is the word women use to end an argument when they feel they are right and you need to shut up. Never use "fine" to describe how a woman looks - this will cause you to have one of those arguments.
WHATEVER This is an invitation to argue. This means that the woman has much much more to say on the matter and you must initiate more conversation or it will bite you in the butt so hard later you won't be able to sit for a week and half.
FIVE MINUTES This is half an hour. It is equivalent to the five minutes that your football game is going to last before you take out the trash, so it's an even trade. Pacing around or hovering over the woman while waiting is unacceptable, just put on the TV but don't get too into a show because when she is ready you must be ready immediately.
NOTHING This means "something," and you should be on your toes. "Nothing" is usually used to describe the feeling a woman has of wanting to turn you inside out, upside down, and backwards.! "Nothing" usually signifies an argument that will last "Five Minutes" and end with "Fine"
GO AHEAD (With Raised Eyebrows) This is a dare. One that will result in a woman getting upset over "Nothing" and will end with the word "Fine"
GO AHEAD (Normal Eyebrows) This means "I give up" or "do what you want because I don't care" You will get a "Whatever" in just a few minutes, followed by "Nothing" and "Fine" and she will talk to you in about "Five Minutes" when she cools off.
LOUD SIGH This is not actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A "Loud Sigh" means she thinks you are an idiot at that moment, and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you over "Nothing"
SOFT SIGH Again, not a word, but a non-verbal statement. "Soft Sighs" mean that she is content. Your best bet is to not move or breathe, and she will stay content.
THAT'S OKAY This is one of the most dangerous statements that a woman can make to a man. "That's Okay" means that she wants to think long and hard before paying you back for whatever it is that you have done. "That's Okay"is often used with the word "Fine" and in conjunction with a "Whatever."
GO AHEAD... At some point in the near future, you are going to be in some mighty big trouble.
PLEASE DO This is not a statement, it is an offer. A woman is giving you the chance to come up with whatever excuse or reason you have for doing whatever it is that you have done. You have a fair chance with the truth, so be careful and you shouldn't get a "That's Okay"
THANKS A woman is thanking you. Do not faint...! Just say you're welcome.
THANKS A LOT This is much different from "Thanks." A woman will say, "Thanks A Lot" when she is really ticked off at you. It signifies that you have offended her in some callous way, and will be followed by the "Loud Sigh." Be careful not to ask what is wrong after the "Loud Sigh," as she will only tell you "Nothing"
So ladies... true? |

| | disappointed | ] | okie on my previous jounal i only wrote the successful outcome of that day. well many happenings along the way mainly getting lost because of navigation, by Naoya Nishio, who is just so~ stupid. well first of all, from amc to long beach we went on pch to 710 south. along the way, pch was "closed" and we kept u-turning many times since i couldn't decide if we were going the "right" way. Turned out we were going the wrong way and just wasted like 15 min. Next, we successfully went on 710 south, but again because of me, we went to long beach port, which was a different place. We got off, looked for south but only north, wat the heck. so by miyuki's idea we went on north went exited and went on south. brilliant!! bravo!! next we exited correctly off 710, and we somehow ended up right next to queen mary. along the way, we were on a one-way street when we noticed that we were going the wrong way. lol. neways we paid $10 jss for parking at queen mary. we agreed to jss go inside queen mary if it's cheap. but heck no, it was $30 per person. o man too expensive! so we went back to 710 freeway to correctly go to shoreline village. along the way, the street separated to two, and miyuki asked which one, i was like uhhh, and she jss took the one to the left. Bravo!! the right path was to another freeway!!! phew. well few more mess ups when we finally went to shoreline villlage. too tired to say every bit. i guess everything was okay until getting home.... cuz we were hurrying to our cars cuz we knew it was gonna get crowded. well we hurried (jogged and ran) for like 10min. Sooner or later, we realized that we were the only ones except the security. We realized that we went 180degrees the wrong way. Wasting 30min. again because of my navi we went to the car. we tried to go to 710 north but it took 1freakin hour for an one-mile trip there. 8 different lanes were mergin to two lanes!!!! wat the he**!!!!! well after we got on, everything went smoothly. we got off at 110 north at redondo beach. we decide to go to mcdonalds. got a meal then headed to my home. Thank you miyuki for being there. arigato. well that was the july 4th 2003 - whoops edition. thanks for reading my bitching. |

| | impressed | ] | July 4th was such a great day. Went to AMC and watched Terminator 3, drank all of my boba before Miyuki (despite the size), and of course, watched the best fireworks of my life with Miyuki at Shoreline Village. Terminator 3 was awesome, (okay in truth, it didn't meet my expectations but since I'm a major terminator fan I must say it's awesome) but if you haven't seen 1 or 2, you must see it, because it will ruin the movie. For the first time, I finished my boba before Miyuki. Muahahaha. I feel so proud. Hmmmm I'm starting to like boba (again). No no no, I must not astray to the dark side. Boba=sometimes. It was just astonishing!! It was the best!! It lasted a very long time and the finale was just excellente!!! O yea~ it was my first time seeing star shaped and happy face ones. They were cute. I hope everyone had their bestest July 4th ever!! |
